Thessaloniki 20/3/2023Press release: Donation of a vehicle by “The Hellenic Initiative” to support the social care programs of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki. On 20.3.2023, the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki received a Volkswagen T – ROC car following a donation by “The Hellenic Initiative” (THI).By donating the financial resources for the purchase of this vehicle, “The Hellenic Initiative” actively contributes to the work of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki and in particular to the implementation of the support programmes for Holocaust survivors and its members in need of assistance.

Through programs and actions that fall within the broader framework of its operation and especially in the provision of social services, the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki is at the side of the beneficiaries in various aspects of their everyday life (e.g. accompanying them to medical appointments, buying food, medicines and other necessary items, socialization, etc.), so that they can maintain a decent standard of living.

It should be noted that these programmes were intensified and expanded during the pandemic period, due to the significant increase in the number of people in need, while a 24-hour helpline was activated. The use of this vehicle is expected to enable Community staff and volunteers to provide immediate and more effective support to those in need.

Upon receiving the vehicle, the President of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, Mr. David Saltiel, publicly expressed the gratitude of the Community for the generous gesture of “The Hellenic Initiative”, whose leadership includes important personalities of our Homeland and the Greek diaspora.

He also noted the key role played by the director of the I.K. of Athens, Mrs. Tally Mair, in bringing the two organizations closer together in order to donate the vehicle to the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki. She underlined that she particularly appreciated the sensitivity shown by the executives of “The Hellenic Initiative” for the rapid implementation of the donation, the excellent cooperation, but also the overall willingness of the organization to contribute to the work carried out by the members of the Board of Directors, the professionals and volunteers of the Community, in support of Jewish life in Thessaloniki.
